The instructions were simple: Keep going.
But simple doesn’t mean easy.

For decades, Bobby Hill showed up to the work.
Day after day, print after print.
Hand-to-hand on sidewalks. Drops across the boroughs.
Painting in the quiet hours, raising three kids, building something no one handed him.

From the rhythm of graffiti trains to the stillness of 3 a.m. painting sessions,
Bobby’s work doesn’t just reflect where he’s been. It carries what he wants to leave behind.

This Field Note is a portrait of scale — earned through repetition.
Of legacy — built through presence.
Of devotion — to color, to craft, to the next generation.

In this week’s Field Note, we step into the studio with Bobby Hill — a Harlem-born artist who’s spent a lifetime learning how to listen to what the canvas is really trying to say.

Thank you for listening.

If this story moved something in you, I hope you take a moment to ask:
What kind of rhythm have you been holding — quietly, consistently — without applause?

That’s the kind of presence Bobby reminds me to honor.
The kind built brick by brick, print by print, over a lifetime of showing up.

Field Notes is now part of something bigger.
This year, I’m taking it on the road — capturing the unseen stories behind how we work, create, and carry each other.
I am calling it the Field Year, and if you want to support that work…

You can do that here on GoFundMe.
